  • MENTAL HEALTH GUIDE: PARENTS AND FAMILIES

Freshman year is a big transition for both students and you as a parent/guardian. The first semester is often the hardest. Nearly every student will feel homesick, stressed, or uncertain at times: and that’s normal.

As a parent, your role is to normalize these feelings without minimizing them. Remind your student they’re not alone, and guide them toward healthy coping strategies. This builds the self-awareness and resilience they’ll need throughout college.

By recognizing this and building healthy routines, checking in with yourself, and reaching out for support, you’ll feel less alone and more resilient throughout college.
